Gloom Dragons: Tom's "A Knight's Tale" Quest Guide

Tom is here to show you how all he knows about capturing and banishing Gloom Dragons! Gain access to this quest line after reaching quest #4 of Alastair's Gloom Dragon quest line, The Architects.

Hint: You will need a lot of Gloom Dragon potions*, and a lot of Mystic Wind.  Stock up on both by crafting them in your Beastie Lab as much as possible.

* Note: The Gloom Dragon Potion recipe will not appear in your Beastie Lab until you unlock it by completing Quest 5 of Alastair's Gloom Dragon series, "The Architects".

Quest 1: What I Do Best

Quest tasks

• Complete Alastair's How to Catch a Dragon quest step to unlock the Gloom Dragon Potion recipe*.
• Craft 1 Gloom Dragon Potion* (in the Beastie Laboratory).  Materials required:
  • 5 Opals (ask friends)
    • Tip: Don't ask for too many Opals at a time - your max inventory capacity is 15 Opals (increased from the original 5).
  • 8 Bass
  • 2 Chicken Meat
  • 3 Crucibles (post to friends)
    • Tip: Crucibles also can drop as random loot when you visit and help your neighbors.
    • Tip: Max inventory limit for these is just 5 Crucibles!  Try to use your Crucibles for crafting before you start visiting neighbors, so you'll have room to collect more.
• Banish 1 Gloom Dragon using Myrick's Flask
  • Summon a Gloom Dragon using the Gloom Dragon Potion from your inventory.
  • Douse the Gloom Flames
    • Look for blue fire appearing on 2 random houses in your kingdom.
    • Click the houses to extinguish, which will use Mystic Wind from your inventory.
  • Click Myrick's Flask to activate it and banish the dragon.  Materials required:
    • 2 Dragon Sparks (get by putting out Gloom Fires)
    • 8 Berries
    • 8 Coal

Quest 2: A Knight's Trial

Quest tasks

• Summon 1 Gloom Dragon
  • Tip: Use the Gloom Dragon Potion you just crafted
• Extinguish 2 Gloom Flames using Mystic Wind
  • Tip: 2 random houses in your kingdom will be on fire.  Click those houses to put out the flames.
• Fill the Renown Bar

Banish Gloom Dragons to fill the Renown bar and earn sweet prizes!

Quest 3: Passing the Torch

Quest tasks

• Get 4 Gloom Dragon Potions (crafted in the Beastie Lab)
• Collect 8 Dragon Sparks (found from dousing the Houses set ablaze by the Gloom Dragons)
  • Tip: When you summon a Gloom Dragon, 2 random houses in your kingdom are set on fire by its Gloom Flames.
• Fill the Renown Bar (banish Gloom Dragons to fill the Renown Bar)

Quest 4: Getting Older

Quest tasks

• Craft 16 Mystic Winds (in the Beastie Lab)
• Activate Myrick's Flask & fill the Renown Bar (defeat 8 Gloom Dragons to fill the last Renown Bar)
  • Tip: You need to summon a dragon before you can activate the Flask
  • Tip: Activating Myrick's Flask requires these materials:
    • 2 Dragon Sparks (get by putting out Gloom Fires)
    • 8 Berries
    • 8 Coal
• Put on the Mythium Armor!
  • Tip: Click the "Customize Your Avatar" button to change clothing

The Knights' Circle Renown Bar: Becoming a Knight

In order to become a Knight, you'll need to gain Renown! Increase your Renown with the Knights' Circle by banishing Gloom Dragons. Gloom Dragons cannot so easily be defeated because you can't clobber them like other beasties. But with Myrick's Flask, you won't have to use your bare hands, like Tom did.

Banishing Dragons is as Easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Summon a Gloom Dragon using a Potion made in the Beastie Lab
       Use the potion from the Consumables section of your inventory.
2. Douse the Gloom Flames left by the menacing creature
       Look for the blue flames coming out of two random houses, and click them.
3. Capture the Dragon using Myrick's Flask
       Click Myrick's Flask to use it.  Materials required to activate:
   • 2 Dragon Sparks (get by putting out Gloom Fires)
   • 8 Berries
   • 8 Coal

Banishing Gloom Dragons will increase your Renown--filling up the Renown Bar and earning cool Mythium gear is as easy as that!  Fill up the Reknown Bar 3 times to earn these 3 Mythium Armor clothing pieces for your avatar's costume.

Keep in mind that with every Gloom Dragon you banish you'll collect Mythium Ore, which can be used to activate the Ancient Artifacts found within your realm. Activate these Artifacts to gain more amazing loot!

Tip: When you activate an Artifact it will open up and give you some loot, just like a treasure chest or backpack does.  Before clicking an Artifact, make sure your inventory is not already at max capacity for items like Hyper Craft, Super Clobber, Small Energy Potion, and so on so you'll have room to accept more.

FAQ

Q: Quest 4 of a Knight's Tale says to Activate Myrick's Flask, but I haven't gotten a check. Why not?
A: In order to complete this objective, you'll need to continue banishing Gloom Dragons to fill up the Renown Bar. Fill it up by summoning Dragons and then using the Flask to banish them.

Q: How do I summon a Gloom Dragon?
A: Gloom Dragons can be summoned by using the Gloom Dragon Potions crafted in the Beastie Laboratory.

Q: How do I douse the Dragon Flames?
A: Look for the blue Gloom Flames coming out of a random house in your kingdom.  Just click on the building that's aflame and use the Mystic Wind (crafted in the Beastie Lab) to put out the flames.

Q: Where do I find Dragon Sparks?
A: Summon a Gloom Dragon and douse their flames with the magical Mystic Wind to turn it into Dragon Sparks.

Q: Why won't my Myrick's Flask activate so I can banish the Gloom Dragon?
A: It won't activate until you have a Dragon in your kingdom.  In order to banish the Dragon, you'll need to use its flames against it. Summon a Gloom Dragon, and then using the Mystic Wind (crafted in the Beastie Lab), you can turn its flames into Dragon Sparks.  Then you can activate the Flask to banish the Dragon for good!
