Alliances Guide
Every neighbor you have is a potential Ally. Alliances are easy to make. An Alliance is basically a bonus you get when you and a particular neighbor visit and help each other.

Every time you visit and help a neighbor, you automatically get Alliance points that add to your Alliance score with that neighbor - and the same when that neighbor helps you back. When the score gets high enough for a neighbor who has visited you back too, that neighbor becomes your Ally. Alliance points do have a limited duration; the point score will drop a little each day so you and your neighbor need to keep working to maintain it. If 3 days pass when both you and your neighbor have failed to make a visit, then the Alliance will lapse. And if 6 days pass when either you or your neighbor have failed to visit, the Alliance will lapse. You can easily renew and re-establish a lapsed alliance with more visits. There's also an upper limit to Alliance points, so sometimes you may see a message that you've maxed out your score with a particular neighbor. There's no harm in continuing to help after reaching the limit, though. If you see the Alliance limit message but the neighbor still is not an Ally, it means that the neighbor hasn't visited you back yet. As soon as they visit you it should establish the Alliance status.
Alliances work together with Parties, too. When you help a neighbor while they're throwing a party, you get double Alliance points added to your score with that neighbor. Alliances benefit you by unlocking special items in the market, including Royal Castle decorations and costumes for your avatar.

Alliance Items
Those special Golden Walls seen in the Duke's kingdom can now be yours! The Golden Wall and matching golden towers are available in the Royal Decorations section of the market. These and other special items in the market are unlocked as you gain Allies. The more Allies you have, the better items you can access. They're all listed and described in our complete Alliance Items Guide.
Alliances Quest Guide
"Alliances" is a series of 5 quests that introduce you to Alliances and how they work. The Duke walks you through some simple steps in getting other players to be your Allies. All quests give coins as XP as rewards; any additional or special rewards are noted below.
Quest 1 of 5: An Ally in Me

- Gather 3 Honey
- Visit the Duke
- Perform 5 actions in the Duke's kingdom
Quest 2 of 5: Allies with Benefits

- Visit 2 Neighbors you want as Allies
- Perform 10 actions in your neighbors' kingdoms
- Collect taxes from buildings in your kingdom 5 times
Quest 3 of 5: Halfway There

- Be at least halfway to an Alliance with one neighbor besides the Duke
- Have 4 Longbows (post to friends)
- Visit the Duke and perform 5 actions in his kingdom
- Tip: you'll need to wait a day after visiting him in Quest 1 before you can perform actions there again
- Reward: 1 Energy Potion
Quest 4 of 5: Give and Take
- Harvest 5 Crops in neighbors' kingdoms
- Gain an Alliance with one of your neighbors
- Buy and place your new Alliance Banner in your kingdom
- Have 1 Ally to unlock the Alliance Banner
- Tip: If it's still locked, you already have the maximum Royal decorations in your kingdom. Put a Royal item (i.e. a Banner, Throne, Archery Target, etc) into storage and try again.
Quest 5 of 5: The Waiting Game
- Visit 1 Ally
- Tip: Neighbors with gold Alliance symbols on the Neighbor Bar are your Allies
- Tend 5 Flowers in neighbors' kingdoms
- Feed Animals 5 times in neighboring kingdoms

alliance points limit !!! stuck with gaining alliance
Hello all zynga gamers! I'm stuck!!! after finishing the alliance quests I noticed that I am stuck at 4 allies. I can continue to complete tasks on my neighbours reigns and tha alliance points keep dropping, however they stop adding up AND it gives me an error message such indicating that I have reached maximum alliance status with this heighbour. Any help his greatly welcome, enjoy your gaming :)
Make sure they visit you back
Both sides need to visit each other to create or maintain an alliance. You can build up maximum Alliance points on your end, but it won't actually become an Alliance until the neighbor visits you back to become your Ally. You might want to contact your neighbors with a message or a wall post to say, "In case you forgot, please visit me back".
If the problem continues after this, you'll probably need to contact Zynga tech support. You can reach them through the support web site.
Good luck!
have the same problem
Impossible to become an ally of Martha
I noticed it is impossible to become an ally of Martha, because I reach this skeletish message, "You have reached maximum alliance status with this neighbour". My friend taught me the word skeletish meaning ridiculous and annoying. And he learned it from another friend in San Francisco "David Stoller". julie
alliance symbols
Since the start of the alliances, I've noticed a couple symbols that show up on my neighbors' pics. One looks like a gold shell and one is a purple/red banner with a crown on it. What do these symbols stand for?
Re: alliance symbols
Very good question! The gold shell on a picture in the neighbor bar means that the neighbor is your Ally. If the gold shell icon disappears from a neighbor who used to have it, that means the Alliance has lapsed due to a lack of visits by either you or the neighbor. Renew the Alliance and the gold shell will appear again.
The purple shield with a crown is even more important. The crown-on-shield icon means that you are a crew member in one or more of that neighbor's Royal buildings. Visit them and tend your Royal crew position(s) regularly to help level up those Royal buildings for your neighbor. If you see a neighbor's picture with a Royal crown but no Alliance shell, it means you're overdue for a visit (unless that neighbor has stopped playing and therefore doesn't visit you back anymore).
